Under 5's

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has expressed interest so far and particularly those who attended our taster sessions in July and August – we hope the kids had fun and are keen to come and play for the rest of the year.
Secondly, the under 5’s team is being coached by myself, John Halbert and Stuart Singleton. All three of us have children who will be attending the sessions this year, and have each volunteered to run the age group without any prior connection to CYFC. For each of us, it’s therefore our first time coaching
and, whilst we are all keen footballers and parents, please do bear with us over the year as we get to grips with the kids (as much as they get to grips with us). We welcome any feedback you have for us throughout the year – the good and the bad – because we want to hit upon sessions that help the kids learn, keep them fit and, above all, keep them having fun! Please bear that in mind and please come and speak to us after each session to
highlight anything that works or fails.
We plan to run sessions on Saturday mornings at 09:30 for approximately 45 minutes. For most of the year, we will be playing at Snoxhall playing fields on the mini-pitch next to the playpark. For those who came to the taster sessions; they were in the same place. In January and February we plan to move inside to the sports hall at Cranleigh School to avoid the cold and rain. Parents are
required to stay for the duration of each session (sorry you can’t go and grab that cup of coffee we’ll all be craving!) and of course we ask that each child bring some water and appropriate clothing and any weather protection they might need. Our first session will be on Saturday 14 September – the idea being that we avoid the very start
of the new school year when our kids will already have enough going on and are likely to be tired.
We will run sessions for most of the school term, but will have breaks for Christmas, Easter and Summer holidays, with more details nearer the time.

We very much want to give you the opportunity to try us out and see if football is a good fit for your child. With that in mind, the club have agreed that we can run sessions until the start of October without any formal commitment or payment from the parents. As we approach October, I will be in touch again to ask each parent to confirm if they would like to stay on for the season and at that
point, I will ask you all to register using the club’s online portal and to pay for the year. The cost for Under 5’s is £85.00 per player and covers all sessions for the season, as well as a football kit consisting of shirt and shorts (kids won’t get kit until you have signed up).
Of course, if you feel confident that you would like to go ahead and sign up now, please email me for a registration link.

You only need to make sure you choose the Under 5-7 category (£85).
I hope that covers most of the info we all need to get going but please let me know if you have any questions. In the meantime, John, Stuart and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 14 September. It would be useful if you intend to come to the first session, if you could let me know
so that we know what to expect in terms of numbers.

Coaching model

The club follows place emphasis on equal opportunities for all players, regardless of background or ability, and on participation rather than winning. All players receive equal playing time, are provided with the opportunity to play in all positions, and the coaching focus is on playing the ‘right way’, even if this has a negative impact on results in the short and medium term.

Working within the four corners model, this focuses
the coaching on developing players’ –

  • Agility, balance and co-ordination
  • Technical ability
  • Positional sense
  • Team play
